ICPC stands for the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children. It’s the process used when a
child from Massachusetts might be placed with a parent or relative in another state.
Before a child can be placed across state lines, the receiving state must complete a home study and
approve the placement. This process takes time but is required by law to ensure safety.
What should you do? – Let DCF and your lawyer know early if an out-of-state placement is possible.
Cooperate with the home study. – Stay patient but check on progress.
Next Steps: ICPC cases can be complex and slow. At Hounkanrin Legal Defense, I help families
